Behind the scenes creativity.

Events, Projects

Thought I’d post some other LeosOSFS related pictures. Thanks to all the Leo’s who participated in creating props and gift bags for the fashion show. The runway was especially amazing and exactly as I had pictured in my head 🙂

Well the fashion show was a hit!

Events

Yesterday the Sunraysia Leo’s ran their first (but likely to be annual) Op Shop Fashion Show, and I think all that attended would say that it was a great success.

We had 11 amazingly talented entrant designers aged 12-18 who were certainly the stars of the show. Working with the girls (and Josh) throughout the process I was very impressed with the different styles and ways they were able to put together outfits purchased from the op shops. I’m pretty sure I saw a dress made out of mens ties! It was incredible to say the least, the amount of talent in the Red Cliffs Civic Centre yesterday. Every single designer should be super proud of themselves and their efforts – I know all the Leo’s and guests were.

Congratulations to all our prize winners!

The LeosOSFS had 62 guests who watched the show and as such we would also like to take the time to say thank you to them for helping us raise $375. This money (and the money we raised at the Triple J One Night Stand) will be going straight back into the community via our Youth Mind Matters committee. There will be more coming on that in the future but in short we want to work with local organisations to tackle a range of issues affecting youth including depression, anxiety, drug & alcohol abuse, bullying, etc.

We had times throughout the planning and organising stages where we wondered what level of support we would get from the Sunraysia community as there hasn’t really been anything quite like this held here before. Being a new community group in the area (and a young one at that) we do sometimes feel a need to prove to Sunraysia that they should take notice because we are a determined bunch. We’re determined not only to make a difference for those in need, but also to provide some new (and old) fun events and activities for young people and their families. There are some holes in the wider community that are slowly being filled and the Sunraysia Leo’s have got their shovels ready.

Photos coming soon!

Leo’s Op Shop Fashion Show, June 1st – Application deadline 14th May!

Events

This is a letter to the aspiring fashion designers of Sunraysia, and judging by what we’ve seen around town, there are a few of you.

If you’re aged between 12 and 18 and enjoy styling and designing outfits, the Sunraysia Leo Club have an event coming up we think you should be excited about. The Leo’s Op Shop Fashion Show presents an opportunity for you to show off your talents to the wider community. And as a bonus, have a chance to win some awards too.

The concept is a simple yet fun one. After submitting your application form and $10 fee, you get to browse the racks at any of our awesome local op shops and put together one (or more) outfits. With a $40 spending limit, you’ll have plenty of options especially considering we’ve got some great deals organised with a few of the shops – your Entrant Confirmation Letter will have more about these and where to find them. You can choose to spend big on one outfit or get more creative and spend-thrifty to create multiple designs. You can turn shirts into skirts or leggings into arm warmers. A hat could make a special handbag or a handbag could be the centrepiece of your design. The best thing about being a part of the Leo’s Op Shop Fashion Show is that there are no restrictions on your creativity. All we ask is that you stick to the spending limit, keep your receipts, and use only clothes and accessories from op shops.

On June 1st 2014, you and the other entrants are in for a day packed with fun and excitement. You’ll get to be a part of a fashion show and  experience everything that entails. Backstage you and your models will get ready with the help of the Leo’s, and a couple of local designers who will not only judge the categories but also provide you with tips and advice for getting into the industry. After a free feed, judging and rehearsal, your models (or yourself if you choose to model your own designs) will strut their stuff on the runway in front of friends, family, media and members of the community who love fashion and want to support the youth of Sunraysia. Prizes and awards for the categories will be presented throughout the show with names and photos published online.

This fashion show is all about YOU!

But we haven’t forgotten the guests. They’ll get to soak in the fun atmosphere of the show, go in to the draw to win a lucky door prize, receive a gift bag on entrance and enjoy some light refreshments during the interval. The Leo’s Op Shop Fashion Show promises them 2 hours of youth talent and community spirit.

Whether you’re wanting to enter the fashion show as a participant or as member of the audience, head to our sponsoring op shops for application forms and cash ticket bookings. Tickets and/or donations can also be purchased directly online at https://www.stickytickets.com.au/SunraysiaLeos . All money raised from the Leo’s Op Shop Fashion show will go back in to the community by allowing the Sunraysia Leo Club to organise future youth events and projects.
